Corey Feldman's Return to TMNT!

Who is Corey Feldman going to voice in the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series?

In 1990 and 1993, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans got to hear one of their favorite Goonies voice Donatello for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.  This actor was well known long before his work on Ninja Turtles with great roles from The Goonies to the Lost Boys.  I know as a child I was thrilled to see his name in the credits, which was just what the producers and casting directors wanted when they hired him in to work on those movies.  Now for the first time in 20 years, Corey is returning to voice work on Ninja Turtles, though this time he will not be one of the Turtles.

The character is being kept a secret for now as all they’ve said so far is that he has started to do the voice work on the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series at the Nickelodeon Animation Studios in Burbank, CA.  In the tvguide.com story, it says “Feldman's character remains shrouded in secrecy, although it's safe to say that he rocks Raphael's world.” and later they add in a quote from Ciro Nieli saying "his role is a perfect complement to his relationship with Sean," says Nieli. "It couldn't be any better.".  Which leads us all to guessing who is this character?  Now I know most people’s, including myself, first thought is Casey Jones.

Casey Jones would be amazing for Corey and having the two Goonies working side by side.  Though if there’s one thing I’ve seen with this Nickelodeon cartoon is that they have changed a lot of things up.  While Casey is an easy guess, they would of thought of that as well and could have another trick up their sleeves.  Tvguide.com also states that “Feldman is expected to return for multiple episodes,” which is another lead up that this could be Casey Jones.

If we think back through TMNT history, Casey Jones is the perfect character to “rock Raphael’s world”, as he is the one who makes friends with Raph and joins him with busting heads of punks out there causing trouble.  Casey and Raph have teamed up in almost every incarnation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, with the only exception being the original cartoon series.  So if the character Corey is voicing is someone returning from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle History, this really would be the best guess.

As I sit here, I try to think of other returning characters that “rock Raphael’s world,” only thinking of female characters such as Mona Lisa or Ninjara.  While there have been some characters to make appearances that Raph got along with okay, he’s never had a friend better than Casey Jones.  This makes me hope that this is the character that Corey is being brought in for.

The voice cast has been an interesting one, with many twists and turns on this show, between people who are known mainly for voice acting, to some on screen actors.  Nickelodeon has been putting a lot of heart and thought into the show, which has shown through in the episodes that have aired.   While I’m normally all for just staying with voice actors rather than big names, I have been enjoying the set of voices in this series.  Sean has done an amazing job as Raphael and is really pulling the character through.  I’ve enjoyed so many scene between Raph and his brothers.  Sean is as great in voice acting as he has been on the big screen.

What I cannot wait for is to hear the two of these actors together again.  It sounds as if Corey will be a character close to Raph, which will make it so these two actors will be working closely together on the show.  I am thrilled and excited about this and look forward to Season 2 even more so now.

Here is a video of Corey Feldman and Sean Astin from Fright Night 2012 in June 2012, as they talk about getting their first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle gigs:
