Cowabunga Corner #119: Interview with Michael Sinterniklaas

Hey Everyone,

Welcome to episode 14 of Cowabunga Corner Season 5.  In this episode I get to sit down with Michael Sinterniklaas.  Michael was the voice of Leonardo for the 4Kids TMNT series from 2003 thru 2009.  He’s also known on many other series and animes for doing voiceover work, as he works for studios in New York City and LA.  Michael is a fun guy with a lot of great stories to share.

I first met Michael at Anime Next in October 2003.  Since then I have seen him at many different conventions and have helped fellow TMNT fans from around the World meet him.  He’s got a deep passion for what he does and has a lot of fun hobbies which gets him to goof off at conventions with the fans.  He’s open to making new friends, though keeps really busy with his life style.  If you have not had the chance to meet Michael I do highly recommend it.

This interview was done at Youmacon 2012.  Youmacon is a Michigan anime convention I go to yearly in Detroit.  Michael has been there many times, as well some other TMNT guests including Tom Wayland, Wayne Grayson and Scott McNeal.  It’s a fun event that is for gaming and anime fans.  I always have a meetup of TMNT fans who show up there to hang out.  If you’re interested in finding out more about Youmacon please check out our event reviews on the Cowabunga Corner website.

The 4Kids TMNT series is known best for it’s darker tone.  While originally felt that it was following the Mirage Comics in Season 2 it did a major spin with Shredder that really did set it aside to be it’s own version of the TMNT.  Still keeping the tone of the Mirage Comics without swearing, drinking and blood.  They managed to repeat some of the TMNT Comics into the cartoon.  A strong and good story with a lot of character build up.  The story got more lighter in the later seasons of Fast Forward and Back to the Sewers.  Find more reviews of the 4Kids series from me in Season 1 of Cowabunga Corner.

A big Thanks to Michael for taking time to do this interview.  I know we had a lot of fun, and hope that we can get another chance to interview him.  If Michael appears back on Cowabunga Corner, is there any questions our viewers would like for us to ask him?  Please share in the comment section!

Next time on Cowabunga Corner is Shell Shock Aftermath,  The Aftermath of a World Record Breaking event as fans enjoy Nickelodeon Universe.
