Random Collection Piece #5

Throughout the years of being a Ninja Turtle fan, my collection has been growing.  Every year I get something new that joins the collection.  Growing since 1989, I have over 500 Ninja Turtle toys out of package and over 300 in package, as well as books, animation cels, original comic art, scripts and so much more.  To cover all of this on Cowabunga Corner is not something I really think I can do.  Though I get a lot of questions about my collection, so I figured I could do random stories from time to time to share one item in my collection.

This is one of my favorite pieces from 2003, as I still use it to this day.  It is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Alarm clock.  I got this at a place called AJ Wards, as it was on clearance.   The clock has figurines of all four Turtles on it with their weapons out to fight and is based on the 4Kids design.  There is a digital clock on the base that Michelangelo is standing on.   In the middle of the four Turtles are five buttons.  Mikey’s M for Minutes, Leo’s L is on the Time button, Donny’s D is on the Hour button, and Raph’s R is on the Alarm Button.  Then there’s the TMNT button, which is the “Try Me” button where you can hear the alarm.

The alarm for this clock is the very beginning of the 4Kids TMNT theme song at first.  All the way up to the line “When all fails it’s time to kick butt”, though during a part of it Michelangelo’s voice is heard talking over the theme.  Yes, that is Wayne Grayson’s voice, the actor who played Michelangelo in the 4Kids series.  He says “You know being a Ninja is serious business, you have to train relentlessly and it requires stealth and timing, as well as split second timing.  Being a Ninja is a tough job, but somebody’s gotta do it.”.

Flipping it over to read the bottom you see ©2003 Mirage Studios, Inc.  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles™ is a trademark of Mirage Studios, Inc. All Rights Reserved.  ©2003 Way Out Toys, Made in China.  From what I’ve found on Google, Way Out Toys seems to be a company out of New York City.   I know they did a handful of TMNT clocks as I’ve gotten a few others with that same sound clip from Wayne Grayson.

If I was to say I got any pet peeves with the design of this clock, it goes to Raphael’s sais.  They are as long as the blades on Leonardo’s swords, while the two prongs are very short.  It is the worst design feature on this clock.  Though for a table top show piece, the sais do not take away from the coolness.  I do not use this as an alarm clock too often, though have used it in the past if I felt I needed more than one alarm to go off in the room.  I do keep the time up to date, and have used it as one of the normal clocks in the room since I got it.

Anyone know any information about this clock that I have not said here?  Do you own this awesome clock?  What is your favorite thing about it?   Do you have any questions or comments?  If so just post in the comment section below, all email addresses are kept private.
