Random Review #37

Throughout the years of being a Ninja Turtle fan, my collection has been growing.  Every year I get something new that joins the collection.  Growing since 1989, I have over 500 Ninja Turtle toys out of package and over 300 in package, as well as books, animation cels, original comic art, scripts and so much more.  To cover all of this on Cowabunga Corner is not something I really think I can do.  Though I get a lot of questions about my collection, so I figured I could do random stories from time to time to share one item in my collection.  This one is about a very important TMNT T-Shirt to me.

When a piece enters my collection, I never know what memory will truly become a part of that piece which will shine brightest.  This shirt is one of those pieces.  I bought it in the early 2000’s, as I loved the design of Splinter on the front of the shirt.  It was one of my favorite shirts to wear.  When my Grandma got ill, I would wear it with her in my thoughts.

My Grandma was like the Splinter of my life.  When the kids would hurt me, she would cheer me up.  She was a teacher and mentor I looked highly upon.  I was lucky to have two who reminded me of Splinter… between my mother and Grandmother.  Though this shirt, I really do look at more towards my Grandma.

I wore it the morning of August 7th, 2003 as I stopped by and saw my Grandma before going to work.  She was in a coma at the time.  Later that day, I got the call that she had passed away.  That was the last time I wore this shirt, in honor of my Grandma I have retired it.  It sits in a display case with photos of my Grandma around the shirt.  The summer of 2003 is also when Splinter passed away in the Mirage Volume 4 comics.  Talk about really hitting home with the comics that year.

The sight of these things that reminds me of my Grandma fills me with warmth and good memories.  I have got this image on another shirt that I do wear, this one just remains special to me.  I will always feel lucky to have such a loving family in which I feel so close too.

Do you have clothing that reminds you of someone you love?  Do you wear or display this piece of clothes?  Please share memories and comments below!.
