In recent years us Turtle fans have been able to enjoy DVDs coming to the market of our favorite versions of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Lions gate put out the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Complete Classic Series Collection. Funimation gave us most of the 4Kids series in different volumes. And Shout Factory has given us the The Next Mutation, Vol.1 and Vol.2. And let’s not forget our TMNT Movies Collection (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles / Secret of the Ooze / Turtles in Time / TMNT) and Nickelodeon giving us “ Turtles Forever”. Every time something new and cool comes out, we look forward to the DVD. The Nickelodeon Series is no exception to this rule. And at long last we have got our first DVD release of Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
This DVD is called “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rise of the Turtles” which was the title for the first two episodes of this series. On the DVD we have six episodes in order. “Rise of the Turtles” (2 parter), “Turtle Temper”, “New Friend, Old Enemy”, “I think his name is Baxter Stockman” and “Metalhead”. There is also a list of some bonus features. We get 6 Making of Animatics and the theme Song Karaoke Music Video. You can get all of this for around $10. Not to bad of a deal. That’s 6 episodes for $10, so if you buy this and the second volume DVD when that comes out for a total of 12 episodes you’ll spend around $20. Which is cheaper than both iTunes and Amazon who charged $30 for the first 12 episodes of Nickelodeon’s TMNT. If this is going in the pattern that I think it is, we are going to have 4 DVDs that will complete season 1. After all four these are released and on the market for a little bit, the DVD box set should be released. Hopefully they will handle this like they did with Avatar The Last Airbender and do a lot of bonus features. That would be exciting. I picked up my DVD of Rise of the Turtles from Wal-Mart. It had a slip on case and included a TMNT Poster in it! So it was a nice a little deal for $10. Though I’ve also paid for the iTunes package of the TMNT episodes, by having them on DVD now I can bring the show to friend’s houses and watch the series without losing my computer to the show. One thing I noticed is on the flip side of the cover is a profile of Leonardo! This talks about his personality, his weapon, and has an image of him. It’s a cool profile. I am a bit annoyed that they call his swords “Katana Swords” since that what Samurai use, not Ninja. Other than the normal mistake there, it’s a great little feature added. I bet the next three DVD will have the other three Turtles! Can’t wait to see which one is Michelangelo’s! I will buy each of the DVDs as they come out to add to my growing collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles DVDs. I am a little disappointed that there is only six episodes on the discs. We were spoiled by Funimation when they did the TMNT series putting 12 episodes in a set as releasing the later seasons. I hope to see all of the Nickelodeon episodes reach to DVD. And would love to see some made for DVD features added on. Did you buy the new Nickelodeon TMNT DVD? If so what is your thoughts? Please share your reviews, questions and comments below!
