Once again IDW brings us something really cool for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans. They went a step farther than how things went with 2009 when Archie released their book of the first three TMNT comics. How could IDW do more, since they already did another printing of the Archie’s 2009 release? Simple! Keep bringing us the releases of the old Archie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures! And that is what they’re doing!
I can not count how many times I told people they have to read the Archie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. These comics are amazing, as they went off on their own adventures and grew along with each issue. We saw character growth, action, humor and a strong ongoing story. When I started to read TMNT Comics back in the early 1990’s, Archie was already on the market with issue 9 while Mirage was into the 30’s. I had a hard time keeping interest in Mirage as it was always new writers and artist, though Archie was keeping with their story all the way through it was connected and held my attention.
On the market now is a the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Volume 1 book. This starts with the first issue of the Archie comics, not the three part mini series that was the last book. This starts with issue 1, which is based on the episode “The Crooked Ninja Turtle Gang”, followed by issue 2 which is a second part of the first issue. Bringing Baxter Stockman back into the picture. As they keep with following the cartoon at this time, issue three is the Incredible Shrinking Turtles as the crystal aka The Eye of Sarnath is brought into the Archie comics. The story once again is split into two making issue 4 a pick up with the Incredible Shrinking Turtles. These four comics make up Volume 1 of the Archie series published by IDW.
There is no bonuses in this book, as it just has the comics. The back cover is an ad for the collection itself… showing Return of the Shredder and The Incredible Shrinking Turtles are the two stories. They have a short write up saying with this book is.
Overall I’m excited about this book because I’ve been wanting more fans to be able to see this story. A lot of people I talk too skipped over the Archie Comics thinking they were going to be too kiddy. Now the fans who want to read this and could never find those back issues may have a chance to keep up with this new series.
While I do think it would be cool to see some bonus features put into these books. I think just getting these stories out to new fans is truly awesome. Thank you IDW for keeping the history of TMNT alive!
Have you picked up this book, if so please feel free to share your thoughts with us. All reviews comments and questions are welcomed to be posted below!
