Review: Youmacon 2015

Halloween weekend has always been one of my favorite weekends of the year.  Growing up, it was for the Holiday.  I loved dressing up in costumes, seeing other people in costumes and the free candy.  I enjoyed the events and just getting to be out in public with the costumes my dad made.  In 2004 I thought that was all going to change for me, as I got hurt at work on October 26th only to find that wearing costumes was a no go.  That was one of the worse Halloweens of my life, as I realized just what I lost from my injury.  In 2005, I had no time to think about Halloween as I was in Vegas on Ha

Youmacon and Midwest Media Expo 2015!

This is Youmacon… this is Youmacon, Youmacon, Youmacon!  That’s right, it the week of Youmacon, which means it’s also Halloween and I’m just so excited to be returning to one of my favorite conventions of the year.  A great staff, awesome talent and a big fun location.  Fun panels and amazing concerts!  In this write up I’ll share a bit about Youmacon 2014 and since Youmacon is ran by the same crew as Midwest Media Expo, I felt this was a great time to pull out one of the TMNT Panels I did at Midwest Media Expo 2015!

Review: Motor City Comic Con 2015

In 1997 I learned of Motor City Comic Con.  Since that year, I have been going every year to this local event.  Most years there are no real Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles connection, so it’s not the guest that I go for, I go for my friends.  For the past 10 years, I get in by helping friends at a booth, so I can enjoy this convention.  As long as I am in Michigan, during Motor City Comic Con, I will attend.  Here is my review for Motor City Comic Con 2015.

Returning to Midwest Media Expo 2015

The past few years Cowabunga Corner has been invited to different events.  Getting to share collection pieces, talk with fellow Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans, and host panels.  One of those events really stood out, with how great the guests were treated, the variety of types of guests and events, and the mixture of panels that I got to take part in last year.  This was Midwest Media Expo, an event in Detroit Michigan meant for many different types of fandoms to come together as a community, for a fun weekend.  When they asked for me to return for 2015, I was happy to say yes.  Here’s a bit about  Midwest Media Expo.

Review Youmacon 2013

Every year there are a handful of events that I look forward to going too.  Some of which are big and have been around long before I started going.  While others have grown and turned into something amazing right before my eyes.  Youmacon is one of those events, I have never missed and always enjoyed.   It’s coming again and I’m looking forward to it, only to realize I did not get a review up for last year’s Youmacon.  So here’s my review, which in itself will explain why I was not able to write one a year ago.

TMNT 2014 Movie Fan Gatherings!

With the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Film coming to theaters on August 8th, some fans are already planning parties and meet ups across the country.  This is something I highly encourage.  Having friends there to share the moving going experience with is a great way to see this film.  To help with this idea we have started up a topic on TMNT-L to help people find TMNT fan gatherings and if their area is not listed they can add it.

Review: Midwest Media Expo

Conventions are one of my favorite things to do.  It takes you out of the stress for a weekend and places you somewhere that you can meet and hang out with people that enjoy the same stuff as you do.  Be this in your backyard or across the globe, conventions are like a second home to those who go.  Conventions usually start really small and have to work their way up, though in Michigan we got a new one called “Midwest Media Expo” which road the success of Youmacon to make it the largest first year event in Michigan.  I was at a guest at this convention and will love to share my review of a great weekend in Detroit.

MME2014 Black Nerd Comedy Panel

Midwest Media Expo is a new event in Detroit which had a lot of great panels going on, with fun guests.  A guest I got to spend a lot of time talking with, was Andre from “Black Nerd Comedy”.  He got a panel on Saturday night which was a blast.  Here I show an edited down version of his panel, cutting a few things with reason.  This is a fun panel, with a lot of laughs and his introduction the Michigan drink called “Faygo”.  Check out the “Black Nerd Comedy” Panel!

Review: D-Lux Entertainment Expo 2014

Fandom is a very tricky thing.  Some fans are happy with just enjoying their world around them, other fans feel they need to compete with their fellow fans and a lot of fans want to reach out and do something great for the fandom.  Sometimes fans can make such a huge impact their names and faces are known all around, while many great fans do wonderful things for the fandom without receiving the credit they deserve.  The one thing I can truly say about this, it’s not easy being a fan who wants to do stuff for the fandom.  When someone does make that step, and watch things happen around them they can get lost in everything and not even realize all they did till the time has blown past them a
